A ruptured water line, for instance, is an obvious emergency. However, a broken-down water heater at the start of the weekend is, too. Can you get by without it? Well, sure, but you don’t really want to, right? You use hot water for a lot of purposes throughout your home, and this is a very disruptive problem.
Now, let’s say it’s the middle of the night and you hear your toilet running or your faucet dripping. Are these problems that should be dealt with in a timely manner? Yes, absolutely. Are they problems you really need to contact a plumber at two in the morning about? No, not really. You shouldn’t just continue wasting water indefinitely, but this one can probably wait until morning.
